Ribeira Grande, 07 Mai (Inforpress) - Os cantores cabo-verdianos Cremilda Medina e Vlu actuaram na madrugada de hoje, pela primeira vez, no festival de música alusivo ao Dia do Município da Ribeira Grande, brindando o público com um “rico repertório”.

The music festival, which took place in Povoação, was scheduled to begin at 9pm on Tuesday, but started two hours late.

The artist Vlu, who closed the show after two in the morning, said in a press statement that his debut at the event was ‘very good’.

‘People reacted well to the songs I usually play in São Vicente. It was great for the audience and the band, as it's the first time we've performed together,’ he said.

Porto Inglês, 08 May (Inforpress) – About a month before the start of the Independence Cup, the Regional Football Association of the island of Maio has not yet made a decision on the island's participation in the tournament, Inforpress has learned.

The team has not yet been formed, nor has a coach been defined, while the other islands have already presented lists of pre-selected players and announced preparations for the competition, which marks 50 years of national independence.

Football on the island of Maio is going through a period marked by the island's absence from the main national sporting competitions, such as the national football championship and the Cabo Verde Cup, both currently underway.

The participation of Maio in the Independence Cup remains unknown, as the association ‘neither confirms nor denies’ the team's presence in the competition.

São Filipe, May 2 (Inforpress) – Today, the team from the Sanitation and Environment Service of the São Filipe City Council began collecting and removing tonnes of rubbish in the vicinity of the Presídio and Alto São Pedro at around 6 am.

After the end of the activities at the Presídio, which marked the end of the 2025 edition of the Day of the Municipality and the Bandeira festivities, the sanitation staff took to the streets to collect tonnes of rubbish, mostly bottles, cans, disposable cups, packaging, plastic and other types of rubbish left by the thousands of people who attended the cavalcade and the last night of the dance/festival at the Presídio

By 7 am the team had already gathered inside the Praça do Presidio and around the Caixa Económica, Alto São Pedro and the other streets near the main stages of the latest activities, as well as almost the entire lower part of the city most frequented during the festive period.

The waste collected will be transported in the municipality's solid urban waste collection vehicles to the inter-municipal landfill located near the Monte Genebra irrigated perimeter, more than ten kilometres south of the city of São Filipe.

Praia, May 8 (Inforpress) - The member states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) declared at the ministerial meeting in São Tomé and Príncipe, on Wednesday, May 7, that they support the candidacy of the Tarrafal Concentration Camp as a World Heritage Site.

The support is part of the final declaration signed during the III Extraordinary Meeting of Culture Ministers of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), which took place in São Tomé and Príncipe from 5 to 7 October. 

“Support the new applications of Member States’ sites to become UNESCO World Heritage Sites, in particular the Tarrafal Concentration Camp, as it represents a milestone in the valorisation of the memory of our peoples’ resistance against dictatorship, oppression and the annihilation of freedoms...”, can be read in the final declaration, published by the Ministry of Culture.

According to the source, the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, called for the support of all member states for this important elevation of a ‘field of painful memory’ that is part of the history of Cabo Verde, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Portugal.
