Praia, Oct 27 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, said today that the agricultural year in Cabo Verde is being “less good”, with different results between municipalities, highlighting progress in the production of corn and beans, and pasture.
During a press conference on the new agricultural year in Praia, the minister revealed that the mission of the Inter-State Committee for the Fight Against Drought in the Sahel (CILSS) began today. Together with national technicians, it will carry out an objective assessment of the rainfed agricultural campaign, following regional criteria.
According to Gilberto Silva, for now “it is still too early to talk about a bad agricultural year,” since the official assessment will only be completed after field work and the final technical analysis.
"Based on the available data, we're facing a less favorable year, obviously, as our situation is very different. There are places where we clearly have good corn and bean production this season," he explained, asserting that in other places, "there was practically no grain harvest."
