Porto Novo: Sugar cane harvest already in its final stretch in some valleys despite labour shortages

Porto Novo, Mar 31 (Inforpress) - The sugar cane harvest, which has been underway for three months, is in its final stages in some valleys in the municipality of Porto Novo, despite labour shortages, according to a report by Inforpress.

This is the case in Ribeira da Cruz, where producers are already finishing the sugar cane harvest, even though they are facing the problem of workers, with two months to go until the end of the industrialisation period.

Generally speaking, however, farmers believe that they will be able to meet the deadline stipulated by law for the industrialisation of brandy, which runs from January to May.

‘The biggest problem is still the lack of labour, but we'll be able to meet the deadline stipulated by law,’ admitted a farmer in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo.
