Sal Rei, May 13 (Inforpress) – The Boa Vista Municipal Assembly unanimously gave the "green light" on Monday, 12, to the proposal for the Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan of the municipal council, during the second ordinary session of the deliberative body.
The vote on the proposal received 12 votes from the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV, which supports the City Council) and five votes from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, opposition) and marks “an important step” towards the implementation of sustainability and climate resilience measures on the island.
It was a proposal from the city council, promoted by the National Health Directorate with the support of the LuxDev Climate Action program and has a total implementation cost estimated at 2,208,962,880 ECV.
The plan establishes a set of actions with the aim of mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting access to sustainable energy sources on the island of Boa Vista, covering areas such as the energy transition to renewables, efficiency in energy use, optimized management of water resources, protection of the coastline, improvement of waste management and the implementation of adaptation strategies to strengthen the community's capacity to face environmental challenges.
