Praia, 21 May (Inforpress) – The Catholic University of Cabo Verde (EU Católica) is hosting a discussion forum today in Praia entitled “Stories and Traditions – Sharing Family Experiences”, with the aim of reviving the values and traditions of Cape Verdean families.
Speaking to Inforpress, the director of EU Católica, Father José Eduardo Afonso, explained that the initiative, which forms part of the “May: EU Católica Family Month – May Family Up” programme, also aims to strengthen cohesion within the academic community, promote the common good and strengthen family and community ties.
According to Father José Eduardo Afonso, the event taking place this afternoon on the university campus aims to provide a space for reflection on the memories, traditions and experiences that shape Cape Verdean families, promoting inter-regional dialogue and the celebration of cultural identity.
José Eduardo Afonso considered that the initiative comes at a time when society is experiencing what some theorists refer to as ‘light culture’, characterised by a lack of roots, by instant gratification, and by a focus on ‘having’ rather than ‘being’.
