Ribeira Grande, 6 August (Inforpress) – Today, the residents of the Caibros area in Santo Antão asked the City Council of Ribeira Grande to build a sports facility after losing the only space where, for decades, they had held training sessions, games, and the Água Doce Festival.
In statements to the press, residents' spokesperson Staline Pires expressed ‘the community's discontent’ at not having a sports facility where they can practise sport.
“We are registered in the Ribeira Grande Futsal Cup, but we have nowhere to train. The only space we have used since childhood, in Letedinha, has now been closed to us by the new owner of the land," she said.
According to him, for years, the former owners of the land never prevented young people from using the space. In addition to football training and leisure activities, the community promoted various social and cultural activities there, namely the Água Doce Festival, which will not be held this year due to lack of space.
