Praia City, Dec 11 (Inforpress) – On Wednesday, the Parliament unanimously approved, in general terms, the bill establishing the Statute of the Creative and Cultural Arts Professional, which sets out the requirements for entering the artistic profession.
A total of 56 MPs were present for the vote: 32 from the ruling Movement for Democracy (MpD), 21 from the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), and three from the opposition Democratic and Independent Cape Verdean Union (UCID).
In the party’s voting statement, PAICV MP Josina Freitas said the caucus voted in favour because it recognises the “urgent need” for the country to adopt a special statute for artists.
“Our favourable vote,” she stressed, does not ignore the weaknesses and “real risks” identified during the debate. She highlighted the need to establish a “special contribution scheme” for artists within the social security system.

Praia City, Nov 11 (Inforpress) – Image consultant Mónica Cunha stated today that professional conduct and personal presentation are “fundamental” in today’s job market, factors she says are as crucial as qualifications and technical skills.
Speaking to Inforpress, Mónica Cunha — an Image and Professional Conduct Consultant who has delivered lectures at institutions on Santiago Island — argued that in an increasingly diverse job market, qualifications, résumés and technical know-how “are not enough”.
Instead, she said, aligning these elements with professional conduct, image, and especially with the company culture, is what distinguishes a successful candidate or professional.
“The way a professional presents and conducts themselves sends a powerful message about their competence, confidence and fit with the company’s culture. These non-verbal elements have a direct impact on career opportunities and professional progress,” she stressed.

Praia City, Dec 11 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Family Affairs said today that initiatives aimed at people with disabilities and former inmates, integrated in the IMPACTAR Programme, seek to ensure equal opportunities and strengthen social inclusion policies nationwide.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony for the programme’s second edition, which promotes entrepreneurship and social impact entrepreneurship, Fernando Elísio Freire stressed that the main goal is to ensure “special treatment and assertive measures” for the most vulnerable groups.
According to the minister, the Government aims to “clearly demonstrate that all citizens must have equal opportunities, regardless of their circumstances,” highlighting, in particular, the importance of providing second chances to former inmates seeking reintegration.
He also reinforced that policies for people with disabilities remain a priority.

Porto Inglês, Dec 11 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic on Wednesday encouraged football clubs on the island of Maio to organise the regional championship and make use of local capacities to boost sports development.
José Maria Neves met with sports leaders in Porto Inglês to learn about the island’s football landscape, which has been unable to host regional competitions for the second consecutive year.
On the occasion, the Head of State said the island has the necessary conditions and talent to resume sporting activities, urging associations and clubs to prioritise solutions and set clear goals.
“I wanted this meeting precisely to encourage you to organise the championship. We must focus not on the problems but on the solutions, and we need to set clear objectives. Maio has talent and considerable potential,” he said.

Santa Cruz, Dec 11 (Inforpress) – The president of Água de Rega (ADR), Ângela Moreno, visited today in Santa Cruz the restoration works on agricultural land affected by the November rains and warned against behaviours that worsen damage in riverbeds.
She explained that the damage affects 23 riverbeds and several waterways running through Tarrafal, Santa Catarina, São Miguel and Santa Cruz — the latter with around eight affected riverbeds.
“We are on the ground restoring infrastructure, reopening agricultural accesses and reinstating working conditions so that farmers can resume their activities,” she stated.
Moreno added that teams were deployed immediately after the rains to visit farmers and landowners in order to assess losses and mitigate impacts.

Lisbon, Dec 11 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde’s Secretary of State for Communities, Vanuza Barbosa, began a 10-day official visit to Portugal today, starting with a meeting with Cape Verdean associations and the community in Greater Lisbon.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Cape Verdean Association of Lisbon (ACL), served to present the diaspora mapping project and to hear the concerns and expectations of Cape Verdeans living in Portugal.
She noted that this mission, which follows the first one to Paris, France — concluded with positive results — reinforces the Government of Cabo Verde’s commitment to a foreign policy centred on dialogue, participation, and the valorisation of the diaspora.
During her remarks, she stressed that the Government, as outlined in its programme and in the Strategic Sustainable Development Plan (PEDS I and II), has assigned an important role to the Cape Verdean diaspora around the world.
