Praia, September 12 (Inforpress) – The island of São Nicolau is the victim of unbalanced development in Cabo Verde, with visible impacts on the region's demographics and economic future, former Prime Minister Gualberto do Rosário warned today.
The statements were made at the end of a meeting with the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, as part of a process of consulting personalities about the country's political situation, when he was asked to comment on the current situation in his hometown, São Nicolau.
Gualberto do Rosário, who was Prime Minister between July 2000 and February 2001, stressed that the imbalance has high costs in certain regions, namely Santo Antão, Fogo, Brava and São Nicolau, affecting “the entire population”.
"São Nicolau is a victim of what has been happening in Cabo Verde in recent decades, which is the country's unbalanced development. And unbalanced development has costs. In certain parts of the country, it has higher costs. This is the case for Santo Antão, Fogo, Brava, and São Nicolau. But it has costs for everyone," he emphasized.
