Praia, 17 July (Inforpress) – Today, the president of the Association for the Defence of the Environment and Development (ADAD) stated that waste management in Cabo Verde is a complex challenge that requires more than just laws on plastic to be resolved.

Januário Nascimento was speaking in Praia, on the sidelines of the workshop launching the ReLiMa project - Reducing Marine Litter in Small Island Developing States in the Atlantic, which was launched today.

The official also argued that resources from the Environment and Tourism funds should be channelled into sanitation and praised the decision by the National Association of Municipalities to declare 2026 the Year of Sanitation, considering it an important measure for improving waste management and reducing marine litter.

Referring to the situation on the island of Santa Luzia, identified as one of the areas most affected by marine litter, Januário Nascimento advocated for greater coordination among environmental organizations, emphasizing that "the environment is global" and requires joint work.
