The government intends to review the volunteer law and reinstate the passport to recognize volunteer experience

Praia, 10 July (Inforpress) – Today, the Minister for Family, Inclusion, Social Development and Labour, Adélcia Almeida, announced that the Government intends to review the law on volunteering and reintroduce the volunteer passport, a measure introduced in 2014 but which was not fully implemented.

The governor made these statements to the press on the sidelines of the official presentation of the Donana Foundation and Cabo Verde Food Bank Volunteer Program, promoted by the Donana Foundation, which included the distribution of Volunteer Cards to the participants present and the registration of new volunteers in the database of the two institutions.

Adélcia Almeida stated that the current law on volunteering, which is about 16 years old, needs to be analyzed and possibly updated, taking into account new social dynamics and the current needs of the sector.

“There is a need to review the legal framework, because more than 10 years have passed, in fact, we have had the law on volunteering for 16 years,” declared Adélcia Almeida, adding that the existing legislation met the needs of the time, but that it may currently need improvements to respond to the new demands of volunteering.
