Mindelo, Apr 11 (Inforpress) - The Minister of the Sea, Jorge Santos, said on Thursday in Mindelo that the Kingdom of Spain is willing to help Cabo Verde set up a fisheries monitoring and inspection system.
The government official, who visited Spain between 30 March and 04 April, explained that his contacts included a visit to the Fisheries Monitoring Centre, which monitors the entire Spanish fishing fleet operating in Cabo Verde's exclusive economic zone, as well as throughout the Atlantic Ocean.
"And we certainly want, and it's useful, for there to be this monitoring centre here in Cabo Verde too. We are going to work with Spanish cooperation to set up a monitoring and inspection centre for the entire Cape Verdean fleet," said the same source.
Its implementation, he added, will support the work already done by the Coast Guard's Maritime Security Operations Centre (Cosmar).
