São Nicolau: Farmers and breeders worried about losses caused by rains

Tarrafal City, August 14 (Inforpress) - Farmers and breeders from the Fragata and Ribeira Prata areas expressed concern today regarding the damage caused by the rains that occurred in the early hours of the 11th.

Speaking to Inforpress, the president of the Fragata Community Association, Silvino Brito, said that “the situation is regrettable,” with several farmers and breeders suffering losses.

He added that in terms of the number of animals, he recorded the loss of seven cows, four goats and three donkeys, and, in agriculture, there were landslides and floods that resulted in damage to agricultural crops, especially yams and banana trees.

‘According to Silvino Brito, the tanks used for irrigation were also damaged in the water distribution channels for the irrigated plots, not to mention some that were clogged due to the floods, and we were left without water in the domestic network,’
