João Teves, 7 August (Inforpress) – The new roads in Levada and Achada Costa, in São Lourenço dos Órgãos, were officially opened on Thursday by the Prime Minister, Francisco Carvalho, with the city council and the Government arguing that the works will improve transport links, access to services and local development.
The Prime Minister officially opened the two tarmac-surfaced roads, funded by São Lourenço dos Órgãos Municipal Council, as part of the festivities in honour of São Lourenço, the municipality’s patron saint.
On that occasion, the mayor, Euclides Cabral, stated that carrying out the works had required “a great deal of effort” on the part of the city council, considering the municipality’s limited financial resources.
According to the mayor, when the municipal executive laid the foundation stone, there were those who doubted that the projects would ever be completed. However, the municipality succeeded in mobilising the necessary resources to turn the project into a reality.
