Ribeira Grande, Oct 2 (Inforpress) – The Municipal School of Music and Arts (EMMA) in Ribeira Grande, Santo Antão, is promoting the appreciation of Cape Verdean folklore and the promotion of new talents, the school's head, Armindo Dias, reported this Wednesday.
Speaking to Inforpress as part of International Music Day, celebrated today, professor and musician Armindo Dias, known as Mindoca, head of EMMA, said that because music is something universal, the main mission of the school he directs is to promote the national folklore of Cabo Verde.
"Music transcends any barrier, any border. It is universal and has the power to unite cultures, and regardless of language, we can all understand it. That's why we value traditional Cape Verdean music here, without forgetting that international music also has a place in schools," he said.
Regarding the challenges of the music school, he highlighted the difficulties in acquiring musical equipment locally as the main obstacle, due to the lack of stores in the municipality to purchase equipment.
