Santiago’s Energy Storage Plant will unlock new opportunities for economic and social development – minister

Praia, 06 Nov (Inforpress) – The Minister for Energy said today that the Hydropumped Energy Storage Plant on the island of Santiago will have a positive impact on local communities, creating new avenues for economic and social development.

Alexandre Monteiro made the remarks on the margins of a workshop to present the environmental and social impact assessment for the project, held at the Cidade Velha Cultural Centre, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago.

This plant, currently in the procurement phase, will be implemented in Chã Gonçalves, in Ribeira Grande de Santiago, and is scheduled to be completed and operational by early 2029.

It represents an investment of EUR 79 million, under the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative, with support from Luxembourg Cooperation.
