Santiago Norte: Technicians of laboratory training on biosafety and bioprotection

Assomada, Apr 8 (Inforpress) - The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) is holding a training session on biosafety and bioprotection from today to Thursday 16 for the technicians of the Clinical Analysis Laboratory of the Santiago Norte Health Region (RSSN).

The training session, which will take place in the meeting room of the RSSN Technical Office in Achada Falcão, Santa Catarina (Santiago), will involve a total of 18 technicians from the laboratories of the regional hospital and the health centres of the six municipalities that make up the region - Santa Cruz, São Miguel, Tarrafal, Santa Catarina, São Salvador do Mundo and São Lourenço dos Órgãos. 

‘The aim is to make RSSN laboratory technicians aware of the importance of biosafety and bioprotection and their applicability in the laboratory routine, with a view to promoting a culture of safety at work,’ Leidiza Tavares, a technician at the INSP Virology Laboratory, told Inforpress.

According to the trainer, during the three days of theory the trainees will learn about the concepts of biosafety and bioprotection, the different types of risks associated with biosafety, the mitigation measures for the risks they will learn about, and how to deal with the risks inherent in their work activities.
