Assomada, May 20 (Inforpress) - Today in Assomada, Santa Catarina, the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, through the Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC), signed funding contracts with 11 tabanca groups from the island of Santiago.

These are three tabanca groups from the city of Praia, one from Salineiro, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, and seven from Santa Catarina, which, along with one from the island of Maio, will each receive 200 contos.

This funding is part of the programme to enhance and safeguard tabanca, which has been a National Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2017, and is aimed at all formally constituted tabanca groups.

On the occasion, the Minister for Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, recalled that over the years the government, through his ministry, has implemented programmes to enhance tabanca, based on improving spaces for memory, interpretation and representation.
