Praia, May 29 (Inforpress) - The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, on Wednesday called for a continental pact for lasting peace, defending Africa's common natural and cultural heritage which should be a “powerful tool” for transformation and peace.
José Maria Neves launched this challenge to the heads of state and government of the member countries of the African Union, in his capacity as Champion of the African Union for the Preservation of Natural and Cultural Heritage, in a message addressed as part of Africa Day, marked on May 25.
Considering the commemoration of Africa Day an opportunity to reflect together on the destiny of the continent, the nation's highest magistrate proposes that we place our common heritage at the center of a new continental pact for lasting peace.
"Africa is not just the cradle of humanity. It is its living memory. It is the sanctuary of ancestral civilizations, the guardian of ancient knowledge and a place of sacred coexistence between human beings and nature. It is these matrices of wisdom that unite us and can lead us today to a rooted and transformative peace," he reiterated.
