Praia, May 9 (Inforpress) – The Independent and Democratic Union of Cabo Verde (UCID) today highlighted the persistent labor crisis in the country, denouncing the lack of effective responses from the Government to resolve the problems.
MP João Santos Luís, who presented the political declaration, warned in his speech about the difficulties affecting various professional classes, from public sector workers to those in the private sector, with a special emphasis on the disastrous conditions of professionals in private security, health, and other essential sectors.
Santos Luís recalled the alarming situation of workers at the Ministry of Agriculture, where many receive salaries that are less than the legal minimum, and criticised the government's lack of dialogue and solutions.
The issue of salaries, especially in the public sector, was tackled with vigour, highlighting the degrading conditions of professionals at INIDA and on several islands, such as Santo Antão.
