Praia, Apr 21 (Inforpress) – The bishop of the Diocese of Santiago de Cabo Verde, Cardinal Dom Arlindo Furtado, considered that the death of Pope Francis means “a great loss” for the Church, but that he leaves “an unforgettable and impactful legacy for reform”.
“He is one of the greatest men we have had to lead the Church in recent times. It is a great loss for the Church, but he leaves an unforgettable and impactful legacy for the reform and the role of the Church in the world,” said Dom Arlindo Furtado, for whom this death symbolizes “a moment of great pain.”
He stressed that “there is an entire Vatican structure that is monitoring this situation, stating that everything is planned, everything is organized, and that the Camerlengo, that is, the cardinal who presides over the Apostolic Chamber, will henceforth assume the management of this entire situation, while awaiting guidance from the Vatican to the people responsible for this situation at this time.”
For Dom Arlindo Furtado, Pope Francis is remembered as “one of the great reformers” of the Church, highlighting that after John XXIII, who called the Second Vatican Council in the early 1960s, he had the role of preparing the Church for its mission and “its testimony in today's world, the modern world, with its complexities and demands, injustices and disparities and contradictions”.
