Praia, 02 May (Inforpress) - The Minister of Health said today that community health ‘is crucial’ to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with close care and ‘positive impacts’ on reducing mortality and increasing life expectancy.
Jorge Figueiredo was speaking at a joint press conference with the director-general of the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), Melchior Aïssi, as part of the 26th session of the assembly of health ministers of the Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held in Praia.
He emphasised that the meeting was aimed at deepening cooperation between ECOWAS countries and signing strategic instruments to strengthen health systems.
‘The reason for this meeting is, first and foremost, to create the conditions for solidarity and co-operation between the countries to be promoted and deepened, and we are going to sign and approve important instruments for the pursuit of health in our countries,’ he said.
