Porto Inglês, Apr 4 (Inforpress) – The rehabilitation works of Forte São José, in Maio, are in the final stages of completion, the Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC) reported today, which announced that the lighthouse will gain a museum center after the intervention.
In a statement, the IPC reported that the rehabilitation of the infrastructure is in the plastering and final finishing phase and, similar to the D. Maria Pia Lighthouse, the São José Fort will be equipped with a museum center dedicated to the interpretation and appreciation of its legacy.
The assembly of the exhibition space, according to the same source, will take place after the completion of the interventions to preserve the architectural structure of the building.
With this intervention, the institute reported, the São José Forte will become part of the tourist itinerary of the island of Maio, “enriching” the cultural and heritage offer of the region and “promoting” sustainable tourism.
