Praia, Jul 1 (Inforpress) - The Minister of Health, Jorge Figueiredo, reaffirmed today in Praia that the fight against alcohol abuse in Cabo Verde is a political, health and social priority for the government.
The statement was made during the ceremony marking the National Day to Combat the Abusive Use of Alcoholic Beverages and the 9th anniversary of the ‘Less alcohol, more life’ campaign.
Jorge Figueiredo emphasised the profound impact of alcoholism on public health and on Cape Verde's social structure, mentioning that excessive alcohol consumption goes beyond health issues and also affects the cultural, economic and family pillars of society.
"We are facing a structural reality, marked by a deep-rooted cultural permissiveness that favours early and uncontrolled consumption, especially among young people and in vulnerable social contexts," he said.
