Fogo: Talaia Baxu Gala honours couple of dancers and reinforces Atalaia's cultural identity - councillor

São Filipe, Jun 19 (Inforpress) - The fourth edition of the Talaia Baxu gala will take place on Saturday 21 at the Atalaia multipurpose centre, the place where this traditional musical genre was born, and will honour a couple of talaia baxu dancers.

The 4th edition of the gala, organised annually by the city council of Mosteiros, aims to strengthen the identity of the town of Atalaia, where this musical genre was born, according to the councillor for Culture, Nelson Pires.

This year, the gala pays special tribute to the dancers Alice Teixeira and Lino Teixeira, who were born in Atalaia and live in the United States of America, in recognition of their contribution to preserving and publicising the talaia baxu, now considered Intangible Cultural Heritage of Municipal Interest.

The honourees will be presented with the medal of cultural merit, as well as their biographies and institutional messages and, according to the councillor, the honourees will be represented by family members.
