
São Filipe, 5 August (Inforpress) – The sea turtle monitoring campaign on Ilhéu de Cima, within the Ilhéus do Rombo Strict Nature Reserve, recorded 281 nests and 535 tracks on the nesting beaches during June and July.
The data released today by the technical team at the Associação Projecto Vitó, which is responsible for the local fieldwork, relates to the first two months of the campaign, which runs from 15 June to 15 October.
The project covers the 22 nesting beaches identified on Ilhéu de Cima, one of the most important sea turtle breeding areas in Cabo Verde.
According to the figures for the first few months of the campaign, 535 tracks left by turtles on the nesting beaches were identified and 281 nests were recorded.
