Praia, Mar 31 (Inforpress) - Carmem Martins, an MP elected on the MDP list, warned today in Praia about the economic situation of women in Cabo Verde, ‘which continues to be a concern’, stressing the need for ‘greater attention’ to this issue.

The parliamentarian from the Movement for Democracy (MpD) and chair of the first specialised committee was speaking to the press during the meeting of the Network of Women Parliamentarians of the CPLP Parliamentary Assembly.

On the reality of gender equality in Cape Verde, Carmem Martins emphasised that the situation ‘is not a cause for depression’, but it is also ‘far from euphoric’.

‘Women are often portrayed as the face of poverty, but this is a half-truth. Despite the difficulties, women provide for their families and play a crucial role in society. We must recognise her as a heroine, not just as a victim of poverty,’ she said.
