Chief of Staff highlights the role of the Armed Forces in building national sovereignty

Praia, July 17 (Inforpress) – The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces considered today that the celebration of Cape Verde's Independence represents “a historic milestone” that symbolizes the achievement of sovereignty, resilience, courage and determination of the Cape Verdean people.

Rear Admiral António Duarte Monteiro was speaking at a conference entitled ‘National Liberation Struggle - The Role of the Armed Forces’, which brought together civil and military authorities to reflect on the country's historical journey.

On the occasion, Duarte Monteiro listed a series of initiatives that the Armed Forces have been promoting since May, covering various sectors and islands, with the aim of ‘promoting the patriotic spirit, extolling the values of citizenship and valuing compulsory military service as a civic and patriotic duty’.

Recalling the 50th anniversary of independence, the Chief of Staff emphasised the country's evolution in various areas, as well as the role played by the Armed Forces.
