Ribeira Brava, 05 May (Inforpress) - Cabo Verde has been chosen to host the African Junior Chess Championship in September, the second most important competition on the African Chess Confederation's calendar, the president of the Cape Verdean Chess Federation (FCX) revealed today.
Francisco Carapinha was speaking to Inforpress on the sidelines of the National Women's Championship and the Cabo Verde Chess Cup, which took place in Ribeira Brava from 1 to 4 May, stressing that the country's choice to host this competition is a ‘huge source of pride’.
According to the FCX president, the African Junior Chess Championship is scheduled to take place from 17 to 25 September and represents a ‘significant milestone’ for Cape Verdean chess, the result of years of efforts to bring a major international event to the country.
‘We've been trying to organise an international event on the International Federation's calendar for a few years now and now we've managed to get the second most important competition in Africa, which is the African Junior Championships,’ he said with great satisfaction
