Sal Rei, Oct 28 (Inforpress) – The “Sarau de Poesia” in honor of the centenary of Cape Verdean poet Daniel Filipe, held in Boa Vista, ended with a joint appeal for the urgent rescue of the work of the author, a native of the island but unknown in his homeland.
The event, which took place on Monday evening at the Arts and Culture Center (CAC), on the initiative of poet Rui Araújo and with the support of the city council, exposed the irony of the local lack of knowledge of Daniel Filipe (Boa Vista, 1925 – Lisbon, 1964), studied in Portugal and Brazil and a prominent figure in Lusophone literature.
The focal point of the gathering was the emotional recitation of the 192-line poem "The Invention of Love," a symbol of Daniel Filipe's struggle against Portuguese fascism. The poem was recited by Rui Araújo, accompanied by guitarist Romeu Mosso, connecting the theme of resistance to the celebration of Cabo Verde's 50th anniversary of independence.
"Daniel Filipe is a man who fought for freedom. When we celebrate freedom, we cannot fail to celebrate independence as well," stated Rui Araújo.
