Santiago Norte: MpD cancels opening of political year due to constraints caused by rain

City of Praia, Nov 14 (Inforpress) – The Movement for Democracy (MpD – ruling party) announced today the cancellation of the ceremony to open the political year, which was scheduled for this Saturday, due to the heavy rains affecting the interior of Santiago Island.

In a statement, the ruling party said that, following the “heavy rains felt in the island’s interior, with several reported losses”, the necessary conditions for holding the event are not in place.

The opening of the political year will be postponed to a later date, which will be announced in due time.

The intense rainfall has caused road blockages, landslides and damage in several locations of Santiago Norte, leaving municipalities such as Tarrafal, São Miguel and Santa Cruz temporarily isolated.
