
Praia, October 29 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister said today in parliament that he has set a goal to increase electricity production from affordable renewable energy sources by more than 30% in 2026, more than 50% in 2030 and 80% in 2040.
“This is a major commitment from the country to energy sustainability, with economic, social and climate impacts. Next year, we will reach more than 35% renewable energy penetration,” stated Ulisses Correia e Silva.
The head of government was speaking during the monthly debate of the second ordinary session of October in the National Assembly, on "Energy sustainability: perspectives and challenges for the reconstruction of a Cape Verde for all," a topic proposed by the PAICV parliamentary group.
He further added that he has set a goal of achieving 100% household access to electricity by 2026, and recalled that in 2015 the electricity access rate was 86%, while in 2024 it stood at 98%.
