Mindelo, Oct 23 (Inforpress) – The national director of Fisheries and Aquaculture said today that the new fisheries agreement between Cape Verde and the European Union will give “greater attention” to fishing communities, in addition to consolidating innovation, training and capacity-building projects.
Carlos Monteiro was speaking at the end of the meeting of the Joint Fisheries Committee, which took place in Mindelo, with the aim of evaluating the implementation of the fisheries agreement, in force until 2029.
"We've strengthened the community component. The new framework will, in addition to consolidating innovation, training, and capacity-building projects, pay greater attention to fishing communities, particularly in small-scale infrastructure," he clarified.
According to the same source, the previous framework did not include a monitoring component, which is one of the “great difficulties” that communities face.
