World Cup 2026: President considers Cabo Verde's qualification a symbol of national growth

Praia, Oct 14 (Inforpress) - The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves expressed “great joy” with Cabo Verde’s historic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, classifying the feat as “simply extraordinary” and a reflection of the growth of the Cape Verdean nation.

The head of state made this observation at the end of the game between Cabo Verde and Eswatini, on Monday, which ended with a 3-0 victory for the Tubarões Azuis, in a match corresponding to the 10th and final round of the African qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cup.

José Maria Neves expressed great emotion and pride in this historic achievement, emphasizing that this feat represents “the symbol of all the growth of this global Cape Verdean nation.” 

"It's a feeling of great joy, we've shown that when we're united, when we compete, we win. It's Cabo Verde that's growing, it's Cabo Verde that's winning. What happened here today is simply extraordinary. It's a symbol of all the growth of this global Cape Verdean nation," he explained.
