Praia, Oct 8 (Inforpress) – Palliative care at Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital reached 500 consultations in the first quarter of 2025, an increase compared to the previous year when the number was 602 patients.
The statement was made by Valéria Semedo, coordinator of the palliative care team at Dr. Agostinho Neto University Hospital (HUAN), as part of World Palliative Care Day, which is celebrated on October 11th under the motto “Keeping the promise: Universal access to palliative care”.
"Agostinho Neto Hospital has been a model because, from the beginning, it embraced palliative care with the vision of achieving universal health coverage. In this sense, it has been offering consultations for several years, and the need has been increasing," stated Valéria Semedo, who believes that HUAN has strived to continually improve this service.
The specialist, who advocates teamwork to improve referrals and patient access to palliative care, said that today's ceremony aims to present a strategy to be implemented at HUAN that aims to provide telephone consultations for patients who need an evaluation to determine the effectiveness of treatment or communicate test results, avoiding a trip to the hospital.
