Cidade da Praia, 29 Aug (Inforpress) – The PAICV and UCID considered the construction of the Freedom and Democracy monument inappropriate considering national priorities, while the MpD found it strange that no questions were asked when other monuments were built.

Speaking to Inforpress, the secretary-general of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), Vladimir Silves Ferreira, when expressing his party's position on the construction of the Freedom and Democracy Monument in Praia, said that Cabo Verde is facing a series of problems that need to be resolved.

"For the PAICV, this is not the time to invest 150,000 contos in the construction of a monument, especially at a time when we are experiencing a calamitous situation and loss of human lives in São Vicente. In this context, it would have been important if the government had shown a sign of solidarity and respect for the Cape Verdeans who have been victims of all the constraints of national governance," he declared.

However, he argued that the PAICV is not against the valorization of historical dates that is done through the construction of monuments, questioning, however, the value to be channeled into the aforementioned infrastructure.
