Cidade da Praia, 11 Aug (Inforpress) – The mayor of São Vicente said today that the priority is to normalise the city and the island, ensuring support for bereaved and struggling families, ruling out any possibility of holding the festival at this time.
‘Right now, we are going to talk about the island, about the city, which is much bigger than the festival. We are now focussing our attention on the families who have lost loved ones. For us, that is much more important than talking about the festival,’ said Augusto Neves.
The mayor was speaking to the press following heavy rains that hit the island early Monday morning, causing seven deaths, missing persons, vehicles swept away, and damage to several homes.
According to the mayor, at this moment there is no possibility of talking or thinking about the festival. The priority is families and returning to normality, so the Baía das Gatas festival is ‘out of the question’ until the island is back to normal.
