Parliament: PAICV accuses MpD of turning public administration into a patronage network

Praia, Jul 9 (Inforpress) - Today, the opposition PAICV accused the ruling MpD of ‘partisanising Cabo Verde's public administration’, turning it into a ‘network of convenience and clientelism’.

“The party [MpD] has appropriated the State, transforming it into a network of control, convenience and clientelism,” declared deputy Carlos Tavares, elected on the lists of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), who presented the political declaration on behalf of his parliamentary group.

The deputy recalled that the Movement for Democracy (MpD) had promised Cape Verdeans “ethics and a new model of governance”, in addition to combating nepotism, but that these “were nothing more than promises”.

"They promised to depoliticize the administration, but they turned it into an extension of the MpD headquarters," denounced the PAICV, adding that the party currently in power had promised "transparency" and that access to government positions would, as a rule, be through competitive examinations.
