Praia, Jul 9 (Inforpress) - The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, today received at the Palácio do Platô siblings Julius Britto and Vanessa Britto, prominent members of the Cape Verdean community in the United States, reported the Presidency of the Republic.

The visit, which takes place in the context of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of National Independence, aims to strengthen ties between the archipelago and its Diaspora, which is considered a strategic asset for the country's development.

Julius Britto, whose family emigrated from Ribeirão Manuel (Santiago island) at the end of the 19th century, has dedicated his life to promoting Cape Verdean history and heritage.

A member of the PAIGC in his youth and a witness to the declaration of independence at the age of 25, Julius Britto is the current president of the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey Association (SEMA).
