Praia, Jul 3 (Inforpress) - The Presidency of the Republic is promoting a special agenda to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national independence, including tributes, evocative sessions with invited heads of state, focused on the exaltation of identity, historical memory and democratic values.
According to the Presidency of the Republic, the celebrations will begin on 4 July with a session to pay tribute to the first government and the deputies of the first legislature, scheduled for 5pm at the City Council of Praia.
This, the highlight of the celebrations, aims to recognise the decisive role of those who, with courage and vision, were at the forefront of building a sovereign state and consolidating republican institutions.
‘This act, which is highly symbolic, will take place ’precisely on the same day, time and place as the first legislative session of the Republic of Cabo Verde, when the text of the proclamation of Independence was approved, the first President of the Republic and the first Prime Minister were elected, and the Law on the Organisation of the State and the law conferring on Amílcar Cabral the title of Founder of the Nationality were approved," the statement said.
