Praia, May 28 (Inforpress) - The secretary-general of the MpD (ruling party) has argued that the 50th anniversary of Independence should be celebrated with more popular participation, taking the festivities to the streets and explaining to the people the true meaning of the freedom that was achieved in 1975.
‘We have to take independence to the people, I think it could be more for the people,’ said Agostinho Lopes, who was speaking to Inforpress on Wednesday about the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Cabo Verde's independence, which will take place on 5 July.
In his opinion, independence celebrations must reach the streets, involve the people and promote joy and awareness, bringing to everyone the true meaning of the freedom achieved in 1975.
“I just want to wish the Cape Verdean people good health, strength and peace as they celebrate their 50th anniversary. I would like to see people on the streets and I saw the start of the celebrations in São Vicente a few days ago and I was very happy,” he said, highlighting the importance of bringing independence to the people.
