Assomada, Apr 25 (Inforpress) – The Santiago Norte Health Region (RSSN) today marked World Malaria Day with a moment of reflection and tribute to the agents of the anti-vector fight in the six municipalities that make up the region.
“This meeting will serve to reflect briefly on the strategy for fighting malaria in the country, in the world and also in the RSSN, and to pay tribute to the anti-vector control agents who have been doing their work every day to ensure that Cabo Verde is now considered a malaria-free country,” said the director of the RSSN, João Baptista Semedo, in statements to the press.
He added that RSSN intends, with this initiative, to reinforce the engagement of other partners, so that together they can raise awareness among the population that malaria is a serious disease that can lead to death.
“Although it is said that we have already eliminated this disease in the country, risks still remain, given that, at any moment, there may be the introduction of imported cases that could cause transmission and could lead to death, because our population does not have immunity against this disease”, warned the doctor.
