Minister of Health reaffirms country's commitment to promoting maternal and child health

Praia, Apr 7 (Inforpress) - The Minister of Health called today a ‘remarkable day’ that invites us to reflect on the progress made and to reaffirm the country's commitment to promoting maternal and child health.

Jorge Figueiredo was speaking at the central ceremony to commemorate World Health Day, marked today, and was pleased that Cabo Verde had made ‘significant progress’ in promoting women's and children's health, with ‘positive impacts’ on key indicators for health and socio-economic development. 

‘Although our figures in Cabo Verde aren't as significant, every pregnant woman, every mother and every baby that we lose in this fight represents an avoidable, irreparable tragedy that affects our entire society,’ said the president, arguing that the country should not stand aside without reinforcing its permanent commitment to act with determination, seriousness and selflessness.

The Minister of Health, while admitting that challenges still persist 50 years after independence, also recognised that the demands for concrete and effective responses have been ‘growing more and more’, claiming, on the other hand, that progress has also been extraordinary
