Mindelo, Apr 2 (Inforpress) - The National Director of Maritime Policy announced today that Cabo Verde will ratify the BBNJ Agreement of the nine member states of the CPLP, which aims to protect marine resources beyond the area of national jurisdiction, i.e. on the high seas.

Anísio Évora was speaking in Mindelo at the opening of the second edition of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) seminar for the BBNJ Agreement, to build the capacity of the nine member states for a final document that aims to protect marine biology in areas beyond national jurisprudence.

For Cabo Verde, the same source continued, taking into account the agreements and all the commitments it has made at international level on the issue of biodiversity conservation, the ratification of this treaty will be ‘important’.

‘It's been a commitment since the very beginning, and Cabo Verde was one of the first countries to submit its application for ratification of the convention on 20 September 2023,’ said the National Director for Maritime Policy.
