Praia, Apr 1 (Inforpress) - The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, called today, on the sidelines of the first National Forum of Biosphere Reserves in Cabo Verde, for their promotion, associating them with tourism, knowledge and academic studies.

Speaking to the press, he said that gains can only be made if the government, local councils, the population, organisations and the private sector work together to promote this ‘great label’, which are the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves of the Fogo and Maio Islands, declared since 2020.

‘We're creating all the conditions, because this is the first experience of Cabo Verde has had with the existence of Unesco World Biosphere Reserves, so we're creating all the instruments to leverage these reserves from a legal and institutional point of view and, above all, from a promotional point of view,’ said the Minister of Agriculture and the Environment.

In this regard, he said that the forum now being held aims to present and validate the strategic management documents for the biosphere reserves, including the national strategy and the specific action plans for each reserve.
