Cabo Verde strengthens its response and surveillance capabilities against the Ebola virus at ports and airports

Praia, 30 June (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde is stepping up its preparedness and response capacity to deal with any cases of Ebola and other high-risk infectious diseases at points of entry, the president of the INSP, Maria da Luz Lima, confirmed today.

The president of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the opening of the Workshop on the Management of High-Risk Biological Events at Points of Entry, which is taking place from today until 3 July in the city of Praia.

Maria da Luz Lima also emphasised that Cabo Verde currently has no suspected cases of Ebola, but pointed out that the country maintains international links, including with African countries affected by outbreaks, which requires constant vigilance.

Although the archipelago is classified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a low-risk country for the introduction of Ebola, the authorities consider it crucial to maintain a state of readiness given the current international situation.
