CAN'2026/Women's Football: Coach says Cabo Verde played well despite defeat against Mali

Praia, August 3 (Inforpress) – The national women's football team coach, Silvéria Nédio, said on Sunday in Morocco that Cabo Verde put on a good performance, despite the 3-2 defeat against Mali in the second round of Group B of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking after the match, in comments carried by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF)’s channels, the coach congratulated the players on the commitment they showed on the pitch, noting that the team had risen to the challenge posed by their opponents and managed to keep the result in the balance right up until the final minutes.

"Today we played a great match. Mali lived up to our expectations. We managed to score the goals we needed, and I congratulate my team for their determination on the pitch," she said.

According to the manager, the team stuck to the game plan, but is still feeling the inexperience of playing in a competition of this calibre, admitting that nerves still affect certain moments of the match.
