Porto Inglês, July 18 (Inforpress) – The island of Maio is currently experiencing a reduction in the number of dogs and cats on the streets, improved animal health conditions and positive impacts on public health, as highlighted today by veterinarian Rossana Barbero, head of the Joaninha Association.
The association has been operating on the island for three years, promoting deworming and neutering campaigns in all locations, with the aim of combining animal welfare with public health protection.
"When I arrived on the island of Maio, I found a very complicated situation. I realized it was essential to control the birth rate and promote deworming, preventing diseases in both animals and people," explained Rossana Barbero, adding that she left Italy to dedicate herself to the island's animals.
All animals cared for by the Joaninha Association are duly registered and benefit from monthly deworming campaigns in the localities, as well as assistance in cases of vulnerability.
