Praia, Jul 18 (Inforpress) - Journalists Edisângela Tavares and Sheila Ribeiro (Expresso das Ilhas), Teresa Monteiro Pinto (RTCV) and Ângelo Semedo (Deutsche Welle) are the winners of the Merck Foundation 2024 Journalism Award, presented today in Praia by the first lady.
On the occasion, Débora Katísia Carvalho explained that ‘More than a mum’ was chosen with the aim of enabling journalists to give a voice to those who don't have one to say what they ‘think and feel’.
"This year we have four winners, two in the press category, one in radio and the other in multimedia. I'm always very proud when they send us the list of countries that took part in this competition and we see Cape Verdeans there," she said, emphasising that last year three Cape Verdean journalists were awarded and this year there were four.
Débora Katísa Carvalho said she was pleased with this work, which leads journalists to expose certain realities that are not beneficial to society and which end up being known, debated, but which also influence the way public policies are made on certain issues.
