Praia, Nov 18 (Inforpress) – The minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, stated that despite some advances made in the topics of negotiations, the global results of the World Climate Conference (COP26) fell far short of initial expectations.
According to the minister, the Cabo Verdean delegation participated in the main negotiation meetings and in many parallel events of interest to the country, noting that during COP26 it took a favorable position in favor of several global initiatives, namely the declaration on the forest and land use, the declaration on zero emission of vehicles and the declaration on the innovative climate agenda.
According to the official, there were advances registered at the referred conference, with emphasis on the themes of negotiations on climate finance, noting that Cabo Verde, as a country in need, gained from the officialization of adaptation to climate change.
He pointed out, however, the assumption of the 1.5ºC target as a target not reached in this COP, taking into account the commitments presented by the main countries emitters of greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming and the planet’s average temperature at the end of the century it will be increased by 2.4 degrees.
