Praia, Nov 24 (Inforpress) – The Cabo Verdean Association for the Protection of the Family (VerdeFam) intends to apply 280 rapid tests for HIV-AIDS, hepatitis B and C and syphilis during the first edition of the International Testing Week, said Monday the executive director of this organization.
The International Testing Week, which runs from 23 to 29 this month, takes place in all Portuguese-speaking countries, is an initiative of Coalition Plus, an international network to fight AIDS and viral hepatitis, of which VerdeFam is a partner, and which has as its aim to draw attention to the importance of screening, the first step towards an “effective response” to epidemics.
According to Elisabete Xavier, the objective is to screen for sexually transmitted infections in their physical structures in Palmarejo and Várzea, in the mobile clinical posts in Tira Chapéu, Bela Vista, Achada Santo António, Achada Grande, Sucupira and other areas in the city of Praia.
“We usually do HIV testing, but this week it is allowed to integrate the other tests. In addition to HIV, we will have hepatitis B, hepatitis C and syphilis”, she told Inforpress, informing that the idea is to carry out 280 tests for each of these infections.
